Our mission in the AIS is to raise awareness of AI and its potential to UTD and the surrounding communities. As a part of our K-12 outreach program, we hold AI workshops and give presentations to many high schools in Dallas and Houston.

Please check out our past and upcoming events below. If you are interested in having us speak or hold a workshop at your school, please feel free to get in touch with us at outreach@aisutd.org.

2018 National Engineers Week

February 17, 2018 - 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
The University of Texas at Dallas

How do you know if a machine is intelligent? If you were chatting with an unknown person on the computer, could you tell if you are speaking with a real human, or a chatbot? At The University of Texas at Dallas 2018 National Engineers Week, we provided the opportunity for participants to experience the Turing Test. This is an experiment in which a participant chats with two anonymous people (one human and one chatbot), and the goal for the participant is to identify which person is the chatbot.

Thanks everyone for visiting our booth! If you interested in learning more about AI or the Turing Test, feel free to contact us at outreach@aisutd.org.

March 11, 2017 - 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM
The University of Texas at Dallas

To conclude our outreach program for this semester, we will be hosting a half day hackathon for high-school students to work on individual or team based AI software projects. Mentors will be available to help guide the students to apply the knowledge gained in previous workshops. Free food and prizes will be available to participants.

TAG Workshops

March 9, 2017 and March 10, 2017 - 9:15 AM to 4:15 PM
Magnet School for the Talented and Gifted

We are thrilled to have participated in the School for the Talented and Gifted Interim Term (TAG-IT) program. Collaborating with the Virtual Reality Society, we developed a workshop to introduce students to the world of Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality. Our workshop introduced students to Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, virtual reality development, Unity, and more. We enjoyed presenting to the bright students of TAG and thank the school for making this event possible!

AIS Workshop Series

February 11, 2017 and February 25, 2017 - 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM
The University of Texas at Dallas

In collaboration with UT Dallas Computer Science Outreach, we are hosting AI workshop series for high school students at UT Dallas. Our workshops will cover general concepts in machine learning, neural networks, image recognition, and natural language processing. Students will also learn how to implement the concepts covered in Python.

Registration has closed for both workshops. Thanks to everyone for their interest and registering!

Introduction to AI Presentations
